Can you offer Day Lets?

We do occasionally get asked if we can offer day lets here at the hotel.

Unfortunately, this is not normally possible, for the following reasons:

  • We are only a small hotel of 8 rooms, with a high occupancy throughout the week.  Checkout is by 11am on the day of departure, check-in is from 3pm.
  • Often people requesting a day let would like the room from around 9am, until around 5pm.  Therefore, the only way to secure this room would be to close out that room both the night before, and the night after (we couldn’t kick the existing guests out early, nor could we ask the new guests to arrive late in the evening).  So yes, it could be done, but the day let guest would need to pay twice the normal overnight rate, for just the one daytime hire.

The other way to do it, would be to book the room for the check-in on the afternoon of your proposed stay (which would be available from 3pm).  And then, if that particular room wasn’t in use the night before, we would be happy for you to check in early at no additional charge (ie at 10am).. however, our morning staff member will have always left by 11am (possibly earlier if they have finished their tasks and everyone else had checked out), and our afternoon/evening shift doesn’t arrive until 3pm, so there are no staff available during the closed period in the day, to check you in.

  • N.B. As we get new bookings right up until very late the evening of check-in, the only way to be sure your preferred room wasn’t booked the night before your stay, would be to phone at about 10:30pm the evening before, to see if the room had been sold, and thus if there was a guest booked in.  If this was the case, your booked room would only be available from 3pm (not earlier because of our staffing), and it would also be too late to cancel your booking under our cancellation terms without the full fee payable.  You could alternatively just book that evening with what may be available.
  • If the room wasn’t in use the night before, with a prior arrangement only, you would need to confirm an early key collection (before 11am) so that our morning staff member knows to expect you, and ensure they wait at the hotel until 11am at the latest, for you to arrive.

So yes, you can have a day let, but generally only if you book your preferred room at the normal rate for both the night before and the night after your planned stay.
