We are a luxury boutique hotel, now highly regarded as the best accommodation in and around the Farnham area. Jason took over management of the hotel in September 2010 and has taken the hotel from strength to strength in that time.
Unfortunately, there seems to have been a popular misconception in the local area about some misconceptions that seem more fun to share than the truth.
We are increasingly trying to counter this rumour, but it’s proving difficult as it seems so widespread in the local area. We’ve been trying to track down why since we started hearing it too.
We’re not completely sure how or when it started, but with the effect of Chinese Whispers, it seems that now if someone hears a similar story from 12 different people, they think it must be true.
22 Firgrove Hill, was built by a very popular local builder, in the early 1930s as a large house, and this house was owned by his daughter for some 40 years. It was extended to over the years, until it became a guest house in the 1990′s, and subsequently the ‘Stafford House Hotel’.
Unfortunately, the owner of the Stafford House Hotel ran into some financial difficulties, and so the bank closed down the hotel and boarded it up.
This remained closed for over a year, before the new owners purchased it from the bank, spent around 6 months completely renovating it with their own financial investment, and developed the brand new hotel as Hotel de Vie.
The hotel was originally targeted at the leisure market (ie for guests looking for a romantic weekend away from their kids), but very quickly, because of the great customer service, individually decorated rooms, comfortable beds, powerful showers, and excellent food, Hotel de Vie became very popular with business travellers too.
Business travellers are now the majority of the total guests who stay with us here during the week, with predominantly leisure travellers at the weekends. We are very fortunate to have successfully tapped into both markets.
Jason, the new owner/manager brought into Hotel de Vie in September 2010, after staying here as a guest nearly a year earlier.
We’re an open minded hotel (in that we don’t discriminate based on race, religion, sexuality), so we do have a wide variety of guests who stay with us, both on business, and for leisure. Accommodating one type of guest on occasion though, does not make us exclusively cater to only one type of guest at all times.
We also have a closed door policy for the comfort of our guests. And we are a child free hotel for the same reason.
We appreciate that some of our pictures and room features are not to everyone’s preference or taste, but it’s certainly not obscene nor pornographic (any major art gallery is likely to have images far more revealing and sensual than anything we have here at Hotel de Vie).
We also appreciate that for many people, the myth can be more exciting than the truth. The popularity of the local myth has taken us by surprise though, particularly as we’re now hearing it described to our guests from an increasing range of sources, which we want to stop.
So yes, although we are happy for a variety of guests to stay with us here at Hotel de Vie (like the group dressed in period costume to visit the Goodwood revival recently), a local myth about the hotel is just a rumour, and not the reality.
We are trying to support our local community in a variety of ways. We’d just really appreciate it if they could help support us too, by only sharing the truth.
